Housing and Transportation

Lubbock is home to more than 200,000 residents and serves as the center of economic, educational, and health care activity for the South Plains region. While the city of Lubbock is able to provide all the amenities and services one could expect from a large city, the Lubbock community maintains a charming atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality that only a small-town could offer. Incoming students to the Texas Tech University School of Law are bound to find housing that is just right for their needs and to feel welcomed by their neighbors.

The housing options and cost of living in Lubbock rank as some of the most affordable in the nation, and according to the ACCRA Cost of Living index, Lubbock currently ranks as the eleventh lowest in the state of Texas and the twenty-fourth lowest in the entire nation (Source: http://www.ci.lubbock.tx.us/demographics.aspx). Getting around Lubbock

Most residents of Lubbock possess their own means of transportation. Most destinations are not within walking distance, and having a car, truck, etc. will be of great use while living in Lubbock. Navigation within the city is fairly simple, as the city is arranged in a grid-like structure in which numbered streets run east-west, and lettered avenues run north-south. Lubbock is also circled by Loop 289, residents refer to this as "The Loop," and is a common alternative to driving through the cross streets within the city.

Public Transportation

Citibus is the public transportation provider for the City of Lubbock and provides three primary types of services. They include a Fixed Route Service, CitiAccess (paratransit system), and Special Services. Citibus has also expanded service later into the evenings. The Citibus Evening Service is designed to meet the needs of both CitiAccess and fixed route passengers who are transit dependent and who would have no other means of transportation in the evenings if the Evening Service were not provided. A majority of Evening Service passengers work at night and use the service for transportation to and from job sites.

To see current bus stops and timetables, visit the Citibus Web site.
