Admitted to practice in Ohio (inactive)

Prior to joining the TTU Law Library faculty, Maxine Young Asmah enjoyed tandem careers as a librarian and an attorney. She first served as the Head Librarian at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio. From there, she turned her service toward the public as an Adult Assistant Librarian with the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library System. This career choice brought her into daily contact with children involved in many problems that morphed into legal concerns simply through a lack of knowledge. Attempts to solve these problems led to Maxine's decision to return to a long-discarded desire: to be an attorney.

After law school, she continued her public service as a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow at the Northern Kentucky Legal Aid Society and, later, as a Staff Attorney in the Handicapped and Elderly Law Project of the Legal Aid Society of Dayton (Ohio). Ultimately, Maxine expanded her public service when she became an Assistant Attorney General in the Ohio Attorney General's Office where she investigated--and litigated--Civil Rights and Workers' Compensation complaints. While still an Assistant Attorney General, however, Maxine discovered the joy of teaching as an Adjunct Professor teaching legal research to undergraduate juniors and seniors at her undergraduate alma mater Wilberforce University.

Immediately before coming to TTU's law school, Maxine taught law students legal research as part of the Lawyering Process course at Texas Southern University's (TSU) Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She also served at TSU, first as their Evening & Weekend Librarian, then as their Faculty Reference Services Librarian.
