Professor Denise Voigt Crawford served as the Securities Commissioner for the Texas State Securities Board for seventeen years. Prior to that, she was General Counsel for the Board for ten years. Today she is sought out as an expert witness on securities matters and is a frequent speaker at conferences of securities law practitioners, the securities industry and securities regulators.

During her tenure as Texas Securities Commissioner, Professor Crawford was twice elected President of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), the oldest international organization devoted to investor protection and the voice of the fifty state securities regulators. She is a former member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Consumer Affairs Advisory Commission, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Global Affairs Advisory Commission, the National Association of Securities Dealers (now called FINRA) Regulation Industry/Regulatory Council, and the Financial Planner Board of Standards Consumer Advisory Council. She is a former member of the National White Collar Crime Center Board of Directors and the former lead trustee of the Investor Protection Trust. She is an active member of the Securities Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.

Professor Crawford has testified before the U.S. Congress on several occasions, most recently on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which became effective on July 21, 2010. She has also testified before numerous other entities such as the Texas Legislature and the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.
