Welcome from the Director
Dear interested students:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Health Law Program at the Texas Tech University School of Law. Our program is growing and vigorous based in large part on the strong interest of our students, the strength of our faculty and the many opportunities available for the study of health law here at Texas Tech. Over the past few years, we have expanded beyond the law school to offer several Dual Degree programs with the business school, the school of public administration and specific life-sciences departments in the University. We look forward to expand opportunities for students to study the broad and exciting field of health law in an inter-disciplinary manner.
Students at the law school also benefit enormously from the close ties between the law school and the TTU Health Sciences program. I hold faculty appointments at both schools and there are many opportunities for students to work with health lawyers, shadow physicians, and make social and professional contacts with medical students. The heart of any health law program is, of course, the study of the law and our program offers an array of faculty members who are experts in their fields. Our health law certificate program sets out a core curriculum which combines course work with participation experience and scholarship. Our externship program offers students opportunities every semester to work with attorneys at both major health care institutions in Lubbock as well as other public and private settings. There are several student organizations at the law school which bring in speakers and provide programs of interest to health law, bioterrorism, and law and science.
This is an exciting time to be studying health law and I welcome you to explore the many opportunities we offer here at Texas Tech.
Very sincerely yours,
Jennifer S. Bard, J.D., M.P.H.
