Laptop Connection Sessions
Laptop computers are an important part of your educational toolkit at Texas Tech University Law School. The Laptop Connection Sessions are intended to help you install necessary software, connect to the School of Law computer network (including wireless access), and answer general and technical questions regarding your laptop. The sessions are held shortly before the start of the Fall semester each year.
Each session is limited to 100 students. Depending on the availability of space, walk-ins will be accepted as well. Register early to ensure participation. These are self-paced sessions. The length of time you will need to spend at a session will vary from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on the configuration of your system.
Online Registration will be available about a month before the sessions begin.
Session Goals
We will:
- Walk you through installing Norton Anti-Virus software and Microsoft Office 2003 SP2 and other necessary software.
- Connect your laptop to the School of Law computer network giving you access to printing and other resources.
Laptop Prerequisites
- Windows XP Professional (NOT HOME EDITION) with service pack 2 or Vista. Windows XP Media Edition is acceptable; however automatic network login is not supported. (XP Professional is available for download at http://eraider.ttu.edu. Login with your eRaider username and password, click on Manage your eRaider Account and click on the Software Download button.)

- CD ROM or DVD drive.
- AC power adapter
- You must have a TTU (ERaider) username and password
Preparing for the Session
- One to five days prior to the session, connect to the internet and run Windows Update. This can generally be found on your Start Menu under All Programs. You can also go directly to the update site, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
- Install all express updates.
- Remove any trial Anti-Virus software from you computer. This will be replaced with Norton Anti Virus Corporate edition. This can be done at the laptop session. You don't want to leave your computer defenseless.
- If you have lots of programs that automatically run, you may wish to disable some of these to speed up the reboot process. You can reactivate them after the session.
- Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space. If you have a large number of music files, movies, etc. you may consider storing these on CD or DVD.
